Some sort of connectivity from the machine to your database is required. Wi-Fi Direct is a P2P setup where WiFi devices can talk to each other with minimal setup. Connectivity is mandatory. As far as Clients involvement is concerned for a Device connected to Client's WiFi Access Point having Internet Access requires a one time setup with credentials like WiFi Authentication password. Once connected the machine can periodically and automatically upload data to your website/server. There can be other options too like communicating to a phone app via Bluetooth, using autodialler on the device with landline telephones etc but requires clients interaction each time they want to upload the data. WiFi is the most used and most available option. Let me know how to deal with the connectivity and how to interface with your machine. This will establish the job responsibility. My quote is for a high level design and data/control flow and devices to be used to achieve the goal. For the actual interface hardware of device and software framework. Charges will be extra.
