Por lo general, traduzco al español neutro (el que conocemos como "mexicano"), pero también he participado en varios proyectos de localización al ibérico; y al ser argentino, uso el rioplatense todos los días. Si bien lo anterior (el poder intercambiar entre variantes lingüísticas) pudiera parecer un detalle menor, aporta un interesante valor extra para las empresas que proporcionan servicios de atención al cliente con un único representante por idioma, ya que encontrar del otro lado a alguien que "hable como uno" no sólo da al usuario la sensación de cercanía (y, por tanto, que quien lo atiende comprende cabalmente sus necesidades), sino que además brinda a la propia compañía una imagen de fuerte presencia internacional, pues pareciera contar con soporte directo a nivel local en aun más países. I also speak Italian and French fluently and have an advanced command of German and Brazilian Portuguese (not on a profesional level, though). This would come in handy if you still don't offer support in those languages, as users from Brazil or Italy, for example, would resort to communicating in English even if they can barely speak it. According to my experiences in interacting with people from all over the world, that results in misunderstandings caused by their use of false cognates or intermingling of words from their mother tongue, which can luckily be avoided if the representative/assistant has a good grasp of that additional language: "attend, please" instead of "wait, please" ("attendere" means "to wait" in italian;) or mistakes like "scherm" for "screen", " tastier" for "keyboard", to name few of them.
