The goal of this project is to automate the collection of field mapping data (tab name and cell reference. (See file: [login to view URL], Field Mapping tab) This field mapping data will then be used by a second process to collect specified data (via the mapping) from a collection Excel spreadsheets. (This is a separate Project)
This is expected to be MS Excel VBA project.
Process Overview:
Starting with the [login to view URL] spreadsheet, the user will be able to initiate the Field Mapping process, by selecting a menu item, button, etc.)
The process will then open the first file found on the File List tab. If no file is found on the File List tab, then message the user to run that process first (That process is part of a separate project.)
On success of opening the source Excel spread sheet (See file [login to view URL]) the user will be prompted by a data entry form, to begin the field mapping process. (See file [login to view URL] as an example of what that form will need to look like, plus what functionality it will need to have.)
Once the user has completed the form, and selects "Add Mapping Entry” the required mapping data should be added to the [login to view URL] Field Mapping tab. (See file: [login to view URL], Data Definition tab for the list of required fields and definitions.) This process will repeat until all required fields have been mapped and the user select cancel or closes the from.
There also needs to be a function that the user can call, that will allow the Field Mapping tab from a different spreadsheet to be imported into the [login to view URL] Field Mapping tab. The data structure will be fixed, and this can be a simple cut-n-paste like function.
Example Files:
[login to view URL] - Landing Table (Field Mapping, Data Definition, Landing Area (reference only) and file list)
[login to view URL] - Sample Source Excel file. This is the file that will need to be field mapped.
[login to view URL] - mock-up of the data entry form, and the required functionality.
This the 2nd of 4 planned projects, success will lead to additional work.

I will develop the required code that will pop up a form to let the user open an Excel sheet and map it's fields. I plan to use some automation so the user is presented with some suggestions. For instance, if a selected cell contains a date then this field will be handled as such.

Thanks for very detailed requirements. There are 2 fields in "Field Mapping" tab that are not included as part of "Data Definitions". Can you please let me know how MapGroupID and WorksheetNumber (is ordering important?) columns are to be filled?
