Catalog Automation Help (Indesign or Other)

I am working on a project to create a catalog with Adobe Indesign.

Basically I am merging items with images into indeign using data merge.

The problem is, I have 2 types of items that need 2 separate layouts

Some items need to show each item separately and some in a group (see samples)

So with indesign I can only do 1 merge at a time... (all products are in a csv file, all images are in a folder)

I am working with about over 3500 plain products

and about another 600 products in groups

So the question to you is, if you can do something with Indesign to combine these 2 merges, OR any other solution for automating such a catalog job...
