a javascript script to display words syllable by syllabe

I need a simple javascript program to display words in a sentence syllable by syllable for a Master's thesis experiment. The syllables will be highlighted after a sentence is displayed on the screen. For example, the word "development" will be displayed as "de-ve-lop-ment" with a certain latency. I must be able to change the sentences and highlight latency with an array and a variable.
It will be similar to the typewriter effect on the link below. However, the full sentence is displayed on the browser screen and instead of single words syllables will be highlighted at a certain latency.
Except for the sentence displayed two buttons are necessary one to start highlighting the sentence and another one to start the next sentence.
