J2ME environments are not required to provide JPEG image support. As a result, some provide it and some don't.
For those that don't, I need a JPEG decoder class (let's call it JPEGDecoder) that will run in a MIDLet (J2ME) environment. The class should contain a method to read a JPEG file InputStream. It should contain another method to get the Image object built from that InputStream, or null if there was an error. Refer to the Feb 2006 issue of Dr. Dobbs Journal for a similar class published for deconding GIFs.
Sun Microsystems has published the source for it's Java Advanced Imaging classes, which contain a JPEG decoder, but it is heavily dependent on some J2SE classes that are not available in a J2ME environment. It may be a good place to start since they allow the source to be used in commercial applications. I believe it's in the RAC agreement, but I want to emphasize that this will be used in a commercial product and cannot use any kind of "open source" code. Neither must you be "tainted" in any way (have looked at open source code that does the same thing). You assume complete responsibility for creating "clean" code.
## Deliverables
1) Complete and fully-functional working program(s) in executable form as well as complete source code of all work done.
2) Deliverables must be in ready-to-run condition, as follows (depending on the nature of the deliverables):
a) For web sites or other server-side deliverables intended to only ever exist in one place in the Buyer's environment--Deliverables must be installed by the Seller in ready-to-run condition in the Buyer's environment.
b) For all others including desktop software or software the buyer intends to distribute: A software installation package that will install the software in ready-to-run condition on the platform(s) specified in this bid request.
3) All deliverables will be considered "work made for hire" under U.S. Copyright law. Buyer will receive exclusive and complete copyrights to all work purchased. (No GPL, GNU, 3rd party components, etc. unless all copyright ramifications are explained AND AGREED TO by the buyer on the site per the coder's Seller Legal Agreement).
## Platform
J2ME systems running on a Palm Tungsten E (IBM WME) as well as a Motorola MPX-220 Smartphone under its Java subsystem.
