I need some Java code that will: 1) Display basic formatted HTML text properly in a Swing component. 2) Given a mouse coordinate (either clicked or moused-over) will return the specific word under the mouse as well as the index position of the nearest letter. 3) Have the ability to highlight (preferably using color changes or bold face, but possibly background color changes, underlining, or surrounding with a box) words or arbitrary parts of word, again based on mouse locations and letter indexes. 4) Will be flicker-free and of reasonable performance on all platforms. I.e., refreshing the entire HTML is not acceptable even with double-buffering. 5) HTML 1.0 only need be supported (i.e. basic text formatting, links, and embedded images....no JavaScript, applets, frames, or any browser specific extensions are required.) The code should be wrapped in an executable Java application that loads HTML from an arbitrary URL specified in the command line and highlights/de-highlights words as the mouse is moved over the screen, flicker-free. The ability to highlight parts of words need not be demonstrated in the program, but the code must be modifiable to allow this. (Specifically, I need the ability to look up the word in a dictionary and highlight just the syllable that contains the mouse.) Exception handling and error-checking are not required beyond what is required to compile the Java.
