The application to be developed concerns itself with Acad2002 and Excel2000. Ideally it would be VBA program in Excel and a VBA program within ACAD. The first function we need is an inventory type lookup list in Excel. Firstly, when making Bill of Material is we keep entering the same data over and over again, for example; Qty Part No. DESCRIPTION 10 B23 5/8 x 2-¾?? A325 BOLT ASSEMBLY 6 C20 3/4 x 2?? A325 BOLT ASSEMBLY Cells “Part No?? and “Description?? are always related. We want the user to bring up a standard BOM template and pick from a list of items, in Excel, when we select either “Part No?? or “Description?? (one or the other) a list will pop-up and the end user can select from that list. Essentially, what we are after is an inventory control and listing type application. This could be and Excel formatted catalog or better yet an Access catalog. We would need to be able to easily add, delete or modify records. We only have Excel2000 and not Access, I am not sure if this poses a problem. Ie. possible runtime version? Secondly, What we need is a VB program that can interface with the BOM between both Excel and ACAD applications. For our typical drawing in Acad2002, we have a Bill of Material on our drawing and also the same Bill of Material in Excel format. We would like these to be linked. I do under stand that in ACAD2002 there is a attribute extractor and you can take that data and place it in the Excel spreadsheet, however, that is a lot of data manipulation which we want to avoid. We want to automatically take the attributes from the Acad2002 drawing and insert them in the appropriate cells in AutoCAD and also inserts it into an Access .mdb file. This also would apply Vice- Versa for Excel, if you enter the data in Excel it will automatically update the drawing. I have included a MSWord file to show what we are after.
