teach me to insert into joomla db module

Hi,
i am wanting someone to either spend an hour remotely with me or create me a video which outlines the process of using an insert & update & select command using joomla database.
i have a limted amount of knowledge how to use php and javascript however having a hard time wrapping my head around the database side of things.
WHAT I NEED TO KNOW IS:
using the [login to view URL]:Developing_an_MVC_Component/Using_the_database style of tutorial.
i would like an easy guide to get me to insert a row into the helloworld table using a form we have created.
and also a function to update row using a form.
please let me know of your prefered method either skype & teamviewer or another way to communicate. english is a must.
