I am trying to self teach R programming language. I am also interested in sport and have read that a soccer match prediction model is an interesting topic to work with.

I am trying to develop a model that will predict the outcome of a soccer match using the data available on [login to view URL]

I have read that the simplest method is a Poisson Distribution Model using previous soccer results. I am hoping to build a model using most of the data and test the model on the remaining portion of the data.

Also within the data are betting odds for the matches. I would like a way the measure the successfulness of the model against bookies betting odds.
