Hello, I am conducting a research. I am interested in looking at the rate of non-union of bone after surgery. There is a belief in a certain segment of the foot and ankle surgery community that believe that Ibuprofen and Ketorolac can inhibit bone healing because research has shown that NSAIDs to inhibit bone healing. I do not know if this is true. That is why I am currently looking at my surgical population and conducting the study to see if I can see the correlation. In my patient population, some people received Advil, some received ketorolac, Norco (5/325) while others received Acetaminophen. I then looked at their x-rays at 12 weeks to find if they have non-union of the bone. I found close to 8 percent of non-union in the entire population. I am trying to find a correlation to see if the use of Advil and Ketorolac post-operatively shows any the rate of nonunion of bone after surgery. I also have a column that shows some patients to be smokers and I want to see if there is any statistical significance between smoking and nonunion in that patient population.
I would like to publish the findings for this study and I would like to have high-quality images/graphs with titles for each. I do not know what type of statistical tests will show significance or what type of test you need to run. You are welcome to use any statistical tool that you find useful to help me with this. Granted that you explain to me in simple writing what each graph means that way I could distill the information since I am not well versed in statistics. I would like to have a table of a) demographic information of the patient's age, gender, smoker, BMI, type of each drug and their dose. Please provide SD, mean and range for each.
P.S.: 0 = no, 1 = yes. So whenever there is a zero in "bone healing at 12 weeks" column, it simply means there is non-union or no bone healing. Conversely, if you see number one in that column, it simply means that there is bony union, thus healing. Same is true of the column "Surgical site wound complication at week 12.
