Latex developer to modify existing cls files.

I need to alter two existing latex cls files ([login to view URL]) to use the Oscola bibliography and citation format used here ([login to view URL]).
The positioning of the footnotes should remain as in the tufte class (ie as sidenotes); but the content of the footnotes should be as per the Oscola citation format).
I'd like the changes documented so I can understand - and learn from - what has been done.
