Modification on Opencart Additional Images

We need to modify how Opencart work with images. We are adding several products directly in database, and at opencart we have two separate tables to images, one inside the table product and another inside table product_image.

We need to remove the main image an modify the code of additional images to show first additional image as main image.

As we going to modify core files, VQMOD knowledge is very welcome. We need this done ASAP.
