520353 Install Magento

Super simple project. I need an install of Magento Comm Edition on my server. (Linux, Cpanel, Shared hosting) I tried installing it with QuickInstall, but once complete I cant access it by IP address. When I put the IP address in such as [url removed, login to view]~example/ it just redirects to the old, live site using that URL. There is an existing store that I am rebuilding, so while in development I need to access the Magento install via IP. I think the way around the quickinstall issue is a manual install. Totally swamped, no time...
