500 Internal Server Error Joomla 1.6

We have a joomla 1.6 template setup using shape 5 template Paradigm Shift. The domain that the site is currently held on is [url removed, login to view]

We have created menu items and articles in categories but each time we link the main menu to an article we get a 500 internal server error.

We would like this problem resolved as quickly as possible please.

We would also like to know the why this is happening in case we run into this problem again.
