Apache config for path aliases

I need to configure an apache vhost alias to use a directory that is not part of the doc-root. I have a lot of experience configuring apache, but I can't figure this issue out... so Please only apply for this position if you're an apache mod_alias expert. I need to find somebody who can figure this out quickly and fix it. If somebody knows what they're doing, this is a 20 minute project (or less).
