WPF app + BackgroundWorker in VB.Net (VS2010)

I'm looking for someone who can help me with a WFP application I'm creating. This app mainly interacts with a SQL2008 database and has few windows as user interface.
My goal is to develop a relationship and with the candidate and pass portions of the development as the project evolves.
The work will consist in developing small pieces of code that will be integrated with the main app and assist me with troubleshooting and suggestions on best approaches to do things.
Most likely this relationship will be based on hours worked. I think we should start with a bank of time (2 or 3 hours) and keep adding more as required.
The first thing I need assistance with is the implementation of a BackgroundWorker to handle the data gathering from a SQL database and do some post-process (simple calculation on the dataset\datatable retrieved). The problem I'm having is that I get an error when the main thread is about to be modified by the BackgroundWorker as this this not allowed. I already have the connection to the database, queries and user interface (simple data grid) already in place. Probably we need a way to disconnect the dataset from the user interface while the data is being modified by the BackgroundWorker, but I'm open to other better suggestions.
A good candidate should be also able to provide recommendations and handle the user interfaces design. For that, I'd like to see some sample of work already done.
The deliverables will consist on Vb.Net code, xaml and written notes in plain English.
