Modal Interaction with DB using JQuery ajax and php

I'm building an employee scheduling web app. I am using Modals to add shifts to the DB and again another modal to Edit shifts.
I can provide you with the styled Modal and necessary html, css files.
I want the modal to interact with the DB based on user input. I also want to make the time inputs very flexible for the user and perform interpretations with PHP after POST. For example a user can input 5am, 5:00am, 05:00 or even 05:00 am and the php code will convert any of those back to hh:mm:ss.
I have attached a list of my requirements.
Please comment your code as I would like to understand what is being performed with each line or few lines.
