The demand is about developing wed database application concerning the running of student’s educational simulation in order to support the students’ experiential learning in the decision making process during the simulation seminar.
Data entry must be very simple and user friendly interface. The same applies for the data base structure, which must be expandable and have efficient documentation.
The Admin must have complete and handy access to set all initial data base and user interface entries or properties in order to run various adaptable simulations in the seminar room using the web database. The highest access versatility of web database template is strongly desired in order the Admin to set all initial data base and user interface entries or properties.
Technical details
The application should be developed and run in an Apache + MariaDB + PHP development environment more specifically XAMPP 8.1. 6 (PHP 8.1.6 for Windows [login to view URL] )
The application should use plain PHP (NOT use of any framework). All components (e.g. PHP CRUD) should be open source and not the result of any PHP generator. The UI should use Bootstrap (preferably the latest version 5.2).
Short Description
The online simulation application performs a simple computational process, which consists in:
(a) The introduction and execution transfers Commands (“moves”) of “Power Units” from on region to another by participating students (players) or NPC.
(b) The calculating results of such transfers commands (“moves”) in terms of superiority to define who will be the owner of the disputed region.
The operation of the application relies on a simulation’s web database. The data are changed periodically via User Interface (UI) during the simulation and the participating students are kept informed of these changes (i.e. the current situation - “who owns what”). A map is central in the UI environment of web database. Web Database’s indicative UI forms are presented in Annex 1.
The way of the data changes is based solely on the change of ownership of the regions by players, which occurs in the case of one opponent’s “power units” number overpowering the others, when all opponent “power units” are present in the same region.
Some specific aspects, namely the selection of the "Leader" by the Players and the inclusion of a “non-player character” (NPC) - a participant who carry on predetermined actions, are part of the web-data base. Additional aspects would be added or expanded later.
