Literature review about 4 papers on Modelling, Simulation and Optimisation of Machine learning

You are asked to write a literature review on 4 papers on Modelling, Simulation and Optimisation and their

application or their relation to Machine Learning or Data Analysis. These papers should share a common

thread, for example a class of problems, methods, or algorithms, or a particular application area, and cover

a considerable historical time span, one of each decade: 1980s, 1990s, 2000s, and 2010s.

Topic: Computer algorithms

1. Summarise key aspects of the papers – highlighting any interesting, valuable, or contradicting

viewpoints.

2. Discuss the applications of their work.

3. Critically evaluate key findings; specifically, their implications, limitations, and the new directions

they have opened-up (in context of the time of publication) and

4. Relate it to at least one of the other papers you have reviewed.

5. Check the number of citations it has on Semantic Scholar ([login to view URL]).

Each source you decide to include in your literature review must be a scientific publication. A source will only

be deemed acceptable, if it can be located in Scopus ([login to view URL]) or has a number of citations

in Semantic Scholar.

Note: The Lockdown Period was a very productive time for science. If you use a paper from 2020 or 2021 you

may refer as a source to arxiv.org. In this case it would be ok if the other papers are from the 1990s, 2000s

and 2010s.

The paper submitted should be exactly 3 pages in IEEE Conference Format. It should have at least the following sections:

• Abstract (max 200 words) – outlying the objective of the review and summarising key findings

• Introduction – set the scene for the review.

• Review – the main body of your review goes here – use section naming appropriate to your topic.

• Conclusions – summarise the findings and answer the question your review was trying to answer in

the context of the papers you have read and reviewed.

• Bibliography – list of references used: You should correctly reference the papers and any other

sources you use in a bibliography section and also in the text of the paper itself.
