THIS IS A VERY SIMPLE TASK. IN FACT THIS IS AN ASSIGNMENT THAT NEEDS TO BE SUBMITTED AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. Location-Based Application Mandatory features of the final app are the following: - Read Location Data by using (1) the Android Framework API or (2) the Google Location Services API. - Access location data on a web server (Web Services). - Display both your own position and the server data on Google Maps. Provide a route to a chosen point of interest to the user. - Make use of the AsyncTask feature provided by Android for asynchronous parts of your app. Intro: You are free to choose which Web Service to use for displaying data on the Maps. A nice source for data is the Open Government Data program of the city of Vienna, which offers locations of public buildings, swimming pools, playgrounds, multimedia stations and many many more in XML and JSON format. In a first step, extend your app to read the device's current position, making use of either the Location Manager Class or the Google Location Services API (recommended). Server Communications / Web Services In this session we will take a look at how your app can deal with Web Services and how parsing of either XML or JSON data works. In particular, you have to extend your app to download the positions of your points of interest (POIs) so that you can display them on a map in the last step. The tutorials and videos below should guide you through this next extension of your app. Finalizing the App: In this session you will finalize your Location-Based App and use the Google Maps API to display your data to the user.
