I have pretty large network that I can consult. My approach would be: 1) Understand the value of this calculation for the users of the web site and agree on final requirements 2) Understand existing Architecture 3) Understand, document the existing data we can use for calculation. Evaluate data quality. 4) Convert the formula to algorithm for calculation, get confşrmation for algorithm 5) Code the solution and test with local data 5) Deploy solution and test. Project charging would be weekly based on proof of work by documentation of work products linked to above tasks.
