The Brief
This is an exciting project for highly skilled business/IT professional to design and create an intelligent and customized Excel sales report template for an established arts company.
The business problem:
As a theatre company, we produce and present four shows per calendar year. We receive daily raw sales data from a third-party ticketing organization (daily sales, refunds, etc) in Excel format, which we then use to track company performance. Our current company sales report format is:
- Time consuming to prepare (takes a staff member 60 mins a day to update and calculate sales KPIs)
- Provides little insight and is of questionable value
- Badly organized and difficult to interpret
- Is of little use
The expected solution:
The creation of a single, all-encompassing, intelligent and robust Excel document that utilizes raw data to provide automated insight and tracking of key sales KPIs. A key part of the project is to advise us on the best way to display and structure this report.
Working in close collaboration with the Marketing Director, you will analyze the business problem and devise a suitable sales report format addressing the below requirements:
Key Requirements
- Automation. We envisage that every day we copy/paste third-party raw data into a single excel document, which immediately produces an updated snapshot of our sales position, across all four shows.
- Visual graphs. The ability for management to quickly interpret complex information.
- Well considered. The design should be clean and efficient.
- Easy to Use. The ability for a junior member of staff to easily update.
- Dashboard and KPIs. Consolidate all metrics in a single dashboard.
Your Skills
- Ability to analyze complex data sets and leverage these to produce useable insights
- Highly competent in producing custom reports in Excel (for Apple) for business, including visual basic, macros, etc.
- Ability to manipulate data and solve complex business problems
- A solid understanding of the sales process, reporting best practice and sales analysis techniques
- Good communication skills
- English speaking

I am keen to do this project and have good excel, vba skills coupled with good business knowledge. I have backgrounds in IT, engineering and management accounting. To be honest KPIs of the show theatre industry and marketing analysis is bit novel to me but I think with close collaboration with you, I should be able to identify the KPIs.
I can think of percentage of seats filled, revenue per seat, revenue per show etc.
I can do a segmentation analysis to show which segment is more profitable, and which segment has more growth opportunities.
