Normalized/cleaned up lot of data, collected from various sources and made it easily usable using Excel. My approach would be to first look at how the data is setup and Pivots are created (is the data saved with the Pivot?). If there are many functions (i.e. Vlookup) used in setting up the data that can also slow own your refresh. This should take about 1-2 hour.
