Web Designer for DC-Based Nonprofit

ABOUT THE POSITION This temporary, freelance position will be responsible for developing ACHP’s new web presence through creative, user-friendly, and mission-centric designs for ACHP’s website, including a (simple but functional) mobile skin. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES - Proactively conceptualize, modify, and create engaging and brand-consistent designs for ACHP’s website (including homepage, sub-pages, and a mobile skin) - Discuss, with ACHP team, how principles of design, usability, and site navigation could best be implemented on the ACHP site; this role will involve creation of design elements as well as ACHP’s overall web presence, including logical reorganization of content on a page, suggestions to improving site navigation, etc. - Work closely with the ACHP office and web developer during the entire design and implementation process - Code relevant HTML, CSS, and PHP design elements for a Drupal CMS - You will *not* be required to do logo design or a complete organizational rebranding; this project is to bring our website more in line with our existing branding materials. REQUIRED SKILLS - Bachelor’s degree preferred, but may be replaced with relevant experience - 2+ years of web design experience (must have portfolio with significant web experience, including experience designing for mobile sites) - Previous experience working with Drupal and Drupal themes - Working knowledge of HTML, CSS, and PHP necessary to design for Drupal - Expert with Adobe Creative Suite products - Significant knowledge and understanding of site architecture, site navigation, and SEO principles as they relate to web design - Excellent teamwork skills; ability to listen to ideas and implement changes within a required timeframe - A great eye for detail, design elements; ability to think and act creatively and strategically - Excellent verbal and written communication skills - Experience working with professional - particularly policy- or business-oriented - websites Candidates who apply for this position will be asked for a portfolio demonstrating previous experience in design (particularly for Drupal) and may be asked to provide code samples.
