Goals (Add these to my current chat app ) 1. Authenticate users to your chat app So far, any user can claim to be anybody, and the app did not authenticate them. In this milestone, all users will need to be authenticated in some way! You must implement Google sign-in. We will go over the basics of how to do this in lecture. Follow these guidelines: • Users should not be able to send messages until they’re authenticated • You should distinguish whether users are logged in from Google in the UI • To simplify things, you can log people out as soon as they close the webpage • You should pull nickname, email, or real name, in addition to profile picture, from the login • You should not count as a connected user until you have successfully authenticated You can find additional resources about Google sign in by viewing this documentation: [login to view URL] 2. Render links and images in-line Make it so that your app accounts for when a user inputs a URL link. For example, [login to view URL], the link is rendered as a hyperlink (inside <a /> tags) in the chat, and can be clicked by a user of the app to navigate to the link. An image tag would display an image in the chat (inside <img /> tag). For example, if a user sends a message containing the follow link: [login to view URL] 1200/public/2019/12/11/zionnational-park [login to view URL], then your chat bot should fetch that image and display the actual image to all participants in the chat. You can assume all images are either JPGs, PNGs, or GIFs. Below is an outline of how to do this. To allow you to build this as quickly as possible, make sure that for each bullet point, you’re testing your code, committing it in Git, and pushing it to GitHub. When your server receives a message from your client, have it check for whether the message is a URL or image, using something like: [login to view URL] On the client, if the URL is valid, render it in an <a /> tag in the chat. If the image is a valid link, render it in an <img /> tag in the chat. You can figure out how to do this in Javascript with the following: [login to view URL] The only guideline here are that links and images should be rendered inline. Their styling is entirely up to you! For the sake of ease, you can assume a user in the chat simply puts in a URL for the text and nothing else (i.e. no regular text with a URL embedded). You can also assume that images are either JPGs, PNGs, or GIFs.
