Hello I'm an electronics engineer with 10+ years of experience, including Arduino, ESP, STM, and Raspberry. I have all the hardware for the project (CAN and RS485 shields) and am ready to start immediately. I would strongly recommend using RS485 instead. CAN has a limited frame length, while you can implement any protocol over RS485. And you connect RS485 directly to a PC via a cheap USB to RS485 adapter without the master node. I'm working as an embedded firmware developer currently and have experience with system and software design & implementation. I have worked a lot with several communication peripherals(both protocol and driver level), different MCUs. I'm certain I can help you with your project and I already have some suggestions by reading the pdf. My question would be about development hardware: I estimate that these requirements could be fulfilled in a week, however I would have to buy the required modules, which could take more time as I don't have everything at the moment (Arduinos and CAN transceiver I have, but for testing at least a master and 2 slaves would need to be built).
