Use Adobe Illustrator to pull data from excel and populate that information on a map.

This is a project for work and I am not able to use the Excel Map function within Microsoft Excel. I do have a license at work for Adobe Illustrator. Basically I have an excel file with address locations a specific company who has employees located all across the United States. I am attempting to create something similar to a heat map where I am identifying the number of employees living or working in certain areas on the map. I was looking to see if there is a way that I can import the data from excel and place it on the area that the person is from on the map. This is a project where we are attempting to identify the number of employees living in certain states that have mandated laws related to required paid sick time policies. I created a map already based on a spreadsheet that I created Vlookups to pull employees by zip code. Unfortunately, then I have to manually lookup what state that zip code is located in and then manually put a number on the map. I have attached a copy of the map that was created. I might help to see it visually to understand what I am attempting to achieve. Thank you.
