Hello, I'm looking for some help with a project related to structural mechanics. Specifically, I need someone who can solve the entire task for me. Maybe $30? In Figure 5, a road embankment consisting of two different layers, the reinforcement layer and the bearing layer, is shown. The road is built on solid rock. The stresses in the two materials and the total settlement need to be determined. In addition to its own weight, the road embankment is loaded with a traffic load q. Assumptions: In Figure 6, a simplified model of the road embankment is shown. The road embankment is assumed to have a constant width and be made of linearly elastic and isotropic materials (bearing layer and reinforcement layer), with material data as shown in Figure 6a. The foundation (rock) is assumed to be completely rigid, and the road embankment is assumed to be able to slide freely against the foundation. The different layers of materials are also assumed to be able to slide freely relative to each other. The road embankment is assumed to be able to deform freely in the y-direction. The road embankment is very long in the z-direction, which means that it is a good approximation to assume that deformation is completely prevented in the longitudinal direction of the bank, the z-direction. Figure 6a shows the geometry, material data, and load, and Figures 6b and 6c illustrate the boundary conditions seen in the xy-plane and xz-plane, respectively. Task 2a: Determine the stress in the vertical direction in the road embankment, σx(x). Present the result in equation form and in a diagram. Task 2b: Determine the stresses in the horizontal directions, σy(x) and σz(x). Present the result in equation form and in a diagram. Task 2c: Determine the strain in the vertical direction in the road embankment, εx(x). Present the result in equation form and in a diagram. Task 2d: Determine the total settlement of the road embankment, i.e. the decrease in thickness. Answer in millimeters. Comment: The settlement will be very small. Usually, the settlement in the road embankment itself is negligible compared to the settlement in the ground below. However, for simplicity, we will calculate the settlement in the road embankment.
