Simple SugarCRM installation on my 1and1 hosted website

I need help installing the latest open source version of SugarCRM (v. 3.5.1a) onto my website, which is hosted by www.1and1.com. This job is simple in that it only consists of getting SugarCRM up and running but does not consist of any customization. I might post another project for customization later. Here is what I have done thus far: - created a folder for the SugarCRM installation in my 1and1 space - password protected this folder - downloaded and unzipped the SugarCRM installation package - uploaded the SugarCRM installation package into the hosted folder - started the installation process and gotten as far as step 3 The attached screenshots (.pdf) show the screens I see after i went to /[login to view URL] and got through steps 0-3. My problem is that I cannot get past step 3 - Database Configuration. I have tried various combinations of the options, but nothing has worked and the error messages I receive always mention this problem: Error 2002: Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/lib/mysql/[login to view URL]' (2). I am looking for someone to help guide me through this installation process. The explanation should have enough detail to allow me to follow the steps to install the SugarCRM package from scratch (if, for example, I deleted the original SugarCRM folder and decided to start over). I will provide the username and password that can be used to access that /[login to view URL] file. For other work such as manually adding MySQL tables, I might elect to have the coder direct me in doing the work so that I do not compromise the security of my website to someone with whom I do not yet have a relationship. My assumption is that this will be easy for someone who knows what they're doing. If there is any relevant information that I forgot to provide, please let me know.
