I want to add login functionality to the [login to view URL] page. The page can be seen by going to [login to view URL], clicking on Services, and clicking on clients. The programmer I would hire for this position would have experience in PHP and could provide support on PHP-database interaction. If the task in question can be better accomplished with something like ASP, feel free to improvise.
Currently, I have written a simple javascript function to read the text file [login to view URL] to determine if the username in the form has already been entered. If the username does not exist, the user sees a message indicating that the username does not exist. If the username does exist, the password is hashed through a very simple hash function(using a more secure hash function is a goal of mine) and checked against the stored hashed password in the file. If the password matches, the user is redirected to the site "username.htm". Otherwise, a message displays that the passwords did not match.
I will be depending on you to provide PHP support in the registration section of the website. I have already tried and failed to implement this, owing to my lack of PHP experience. I need you to implement the following function for the registration button:
Checks the username in the textbox against the usernames stored in the text file (eventually, read username and password from database and not text file).
Checks to see if the username has already been taken.
Checks to see if the password or username field is empty.
Hashes the password and stores it in the file.
Displays messages to the user if username or password is empty, or if username is already taken.
Creates a webpage "username.htm" and redirects the user there upon completing registration. No information other than username or password is needed at this time
I look forward to working with you.
