I have worked previously on 2 different news app projects, The first being, a location based news service app which works exactly like the way you have described in your description, It gathers data from different news sources, and provides the user with news that are according to the users location, location data is gathered right at the moment and provides notification service as well upon new news arrivals. Secondly, I have worked on a project for a reputable client, that too is a news application that works in the way that a user subscribes to news types and the counties and states for the subscription and the user is provided with the news alerts as they are uploaded to the server and works in real time for updating the subscribers.
