Connector service based on Windows Filtering Platform to modify and redirect http(s) packets to existing cloud-based webfilter In order to automatically authenticate users to our cloud-based webfilter, we need a Connector, which adds an authentication string to all http and https packets send by applications. Using this automatic authentication method, the webfilter can determine which user can access which website (or other internet content) according to the policy defined by the company the user works in. The Connector shall be a service based on Windows Filtering Platform and thus be usable by all modern Windows devices (including Windows RT and Server versions). The Connector listens to TCP/IP traffic and becomes active as soon as http or https packets are directed to the predefined proxy IP. If traffic is headed towards our cloud-based webfilter, an authentication string is added to the http(s) headers of the packets. With this authentication string, the user is automatically authenticated towards the webfilter. A previous version of the Connector based on older Windows platforms can be provided. Similarly, samples of the authentication string, detailed information about its creation and packages with this string added to the header can be provided.
