=====Experience Required:===== 1) Extensive knowledge of CSS 2) HTML/XML programming (including proper use of META tags, ALT tags and Title tags in web design.) 3) PHP and ASP (basic database knowledge) 4) Java Script (e.g. drop down menus and navigation) 5) Extensive knowledge of Dreamweaver and Dreamweaver templates 6) CGI 7) Familiarity with programs such as Word, Excel, Adobe Acrobat, Quark and Photoshop. 8) Knowledge of basic webmaster skills (e.g. registering domain names, setting up DNS pointers for websites, setting up secure vs. unsecure directories and sub-directories) 9) Ability to answer technical questions in easy to understand plain English, as needed, about web design, web hosting and so forth. =====Who We Are:===== I run a 10+ year old marketing consultation firm specializing in Internet marketing, specifically search engine optimization. My company also provides web and graphic design. My clients have been with my firm upwards of 7 years on average. They have been loyal clients because of standards I have for customer service and quality. Our clients, our staff and our vendors state that we are: “easy to work with “, “energetic”, “bubbly”, and “very responsive.” They also state that we: “produce outstanding work” and “work that never needs to be double-checked for accuracy.” =====Our Expectations:===== We want you to have fun, love working for us and to eagerly take on the projects we assign to you! (In fact, most of our vendors and employees tell us that they absolutely love working for us!) We strive to create an environment that challenges your skills, but where you feel that you are a valued member to our team. We’ve worked for bosses from you-know-where and we REFUSE to be that kind of supervisor to our team members. But, as with any organization, we do have some expectations. 1) FUN AND ENERGETIC --We are looking for someone with a fun, energetic, customer-oriented attitude and personality. If you are the stereotypical, introvert programmer who finds working with code more exciting then dealing with people, this likely isn’t the best job for you. You need to have a good balance between people skills and technical skills. 2) DEDICATED TO CUSTOMER SERVICE -- We want someone who will bend over backwards to service clients and make sure that they are happy. Our clients are spoiled by us. We typically respond to their inquires (emails, calls, etc.) within 1-2 hours, or in the least within 1 business day. No matter how busy we are, our clients each feel that they are the only client! We also deal with client inquiries by listening and not letting our personal frustrations get in the way of servicing the client. 3) COMMITMENT TO QUALITY CONTROL -- We need someone who is super dedicated to quality and quality control. By this we mean that you test all of your work product before submitting it to us as “completed.” We have worked with a number of delightful and talented web programmers but they miss the boat on quality control. We can’t present sloppy work to our clients and don’t have the time to micro-manage work we task to you. Some of our pet peeves about quality control include: ** Failing to match font sizes and font styles so that all pages within the site are consistent. ** Failing to test hyperlinks to internal AND external pages. ** Failing to ensure that database functions (e.g. searches, data retrieval, log-ins, etc.) are working properly and without error messages or displaying incorrect information. ** Failing to test the CSS or Dreamweaver template file for glitches INCLUDING how the template will be impacted IF an existing web page transitions to a new template. (For example, do the editable regions line up? How do tables or indents or oversized images impact the new design/template?) ** Failing to test CGI or other forms to ensure that they are working properly. **Failing to remove design notes from public view by leaving them within the site’s content. ** Failing to test the site in multiple browsers (Internet Explorer, Firefox and Netscape) 4) HONEST – We need someone who isn’t afraid to tell us what’s happening—if there are problems we want to know. We’d rather have you tell us what’s really going on then us becoming frustrated because we’re not hearing the whole story. 5) HONORS PRICE – For the most part, when we hand over a project to you, you will have provided us with a not-to-exceed price. We take this quite literally. If, however, if our clients want things outside of the scope of work (e.g. want more photos, want to add in more pages into the website, etc.) then we certainly are willing to pay for these additions. If the work starts to fall outside of the original scope of work, please let us know PRIOR to performing any of this extra work so that we can advise our clients that there will be extra fees and receive their approval. If there are glitches, issues or problems caused by something on your end (e.g. issues with programming code, improper set-up of CSS, incompatibility with editable regions when importing the Dreamweaver template into an existing site, problems with your software or computer hardware) or IF you are super picky about something (e.g. keep tweaking something because YOU don’t think it is perfect enough), then we should not be billed extra for your time. As a general rule, unless we agree to pay more than the original agreed upon project amount, please do NOT bill us for more than the project amount! 6) COMMITTED TO TIMELINES, DEADLINES AND PROJECT COMPLETION – While it might be part of acceptable practice in today’s workforce, 90% completion is not acceptable here. If you take on a project, we expect you to make the time available to complete the project in a timely manner and in its entirety! (Obviously, if you have significant personal issues such as a death in the family, we are very flexible!) We have had programmers in the past who will start working on the project but when a bigger one comes along from someone else they disappear leaving us dangling and the project incomplete. 7) EXCELLENT COMMUNICATION SKILLS – We love to keep a friendly working environment! We expect that when you correspond with us and/or our clients that you will use proper grammar, without profanity, and that you will be professional even if the client is challenging your patience. =====The Process: ===== Since I have done this kind of work before, I know what programmers expect and like to have available. I will try to provide clear directions/instructions about the project and if needed, welcome emails/calls from you to clarify anything that is unclear. When in doubt, please call me for clarification. I will also provide you with a timeline for elements of the project and a project completion deadline. The Photoshop file will be used to break out the page into CSS format using Dreamweaver for template creation. I prefer to work with HTML vs. PHP or ASP. (PHP and ASP will ONLY be used on existing sites where it is required. All new websites will be in HTML unless otherwise indicated.) Then, when the template is created, I will need you to test the file to ensure that when text, graphics or tables are inserted that the CSS and template aren’t funky looking. If the template and/or CSS files need to be altered, I expect you to make those changes. Please DO NOT submit files for me to review unless you have tested EVERYTHING and have fixed problems/bugs! I will then submit the beta HTML design to the client for review prior to inserting any content. Once the client approves the HTML design, then I may ask you to insert text, graphics and other content into the pages. The content, including any graphics or attachments will be submitted to you at one time, in one or more emails, or alternately, FTPed to the server where you can capture all files needed for the project. When you are finished inserting the content into the pages, please test all pages to ensure that the links, graphics and text display properly. Pay special attention to text size, font styles and displays on multiple monitors using multiple browsers. If there are problems, please fix the glitches before submitting the site/pages to me. Again, please DO NOT submit files for me to review unless you have tested EVERYTHING and have fixed problems/bugs! =====Bid Request:===== We are requesting bids on the following: BID A: Cost to build a Dreamweaver template using our Photoshop file and incorporating CSS into the template design. Must be set up with editable regions in the META and Title tags. Also should include a drop down menu. (This should be a not to exceed price.) BID B: Cost to build a 20 page website. This will include: building a Dreamweaver template which incorporates CSS into the template design (including all editable regions for content, META and title tags), inserting content into the site, building a single CGI form with up to 10 fields, resizing up to 10 graphics/photos as needed to be included in the site content, inserting all ALT tags and SEO tags as needed. Content insertion also requires formatting of test and insertion of hyperlinks. (This should be a not to exceed price.) BID C: Cost to make general changes (e.g. inserting text, building new pages using a Dreamweaver template, etc.) to existing websites. (This should be an hourly rate.)
